The Origin of Brainchild, Inc.

In 2005, Mark Eshelman (bio), inventor of the PLANKET (PLANKET website) and co-founder of Brainchild, Inc., had an idea to create a plant cover product that would protect valuable plants and shrubs from frosts and light freezes using attractive, lawn-appropriate and cost-effective material.

Mark had a great idea and a simple prototype, but no experience in taking a consumer product to market. Through mutual contacts, he met and pitched the idea to Joe Marischen (bio), eventual co-founder and President of Brainchild, Inc., who had prior experience taking product ideas to market.

Joe saw the value in the PLANKET idea and, together with Mark, formed Brainchild, Inc. to further develop the product and take it to market.

By the end of 2007, over 50,000 units of the PLANKET had been sold and, in the process, Joe and Mark had established a turnkey process by which Brainchild could take other bright ideas and turn them into successful consumer products.
